ST. GEORGE (AP) -- Costco Wholesale Corp. plans to build a new store in St. George that will employ 200 people.
The wholesale club retailer announced Friday that it expects to open the store in October. But plans have not been finalized, according to real estate agent John Griffith, who is working on the deal.Griffith said the store is likely to bring the city $400,000 in sales tax.
But city spokesman Marc Mortensen said officials haven't seen any documentation yet and have not closed the deal.
The store will occupy about 20 acres and will include a gas station. Griffith said the store will appeal to St. George customers who travel to a Costco store in Las Vegas and to others around southern Utah.
Costco has more than 250 stores in North America, with 3.5 million business members and more than 8 million gold star members.
